It’s that time of year again… ExpoWest 2026 is upon us.
Where can you find Smirk’s at ExpoWest?
Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace # F119 – March 3rd
SCIFTS (Hyatt Regency Orange County) – # 30G – March 3rd
ExpoWest Main Booth # 1536 Hall Be – March 4-6th
For those in the natural products industry, there’s no need to explain the enormity of this show. It’s part reunion, part trend-spotting expedition, part endurance test and entirely energizing.
Smirk’s ExpoWest Goals
Every company attends with different objectives. As a bulk organic and conventional ingredient supplier, Smirk’s goals are consistent:
- Connect with existing customers
- Meet new potential partners
- Spend time with our suppliers
- Gather real-time market intelligence
- Discover what’s next
We support food and beverage manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, bakeries, CPG brands, pet food companies and personal care companies across categories with bulk nuts, seeds, grains, coconut products, dried fruits, oils, sweeteners, and gluten-free flours, etc. But more than that, our goal is to provide solutions.
Sometimes that solution is a strategic sourcing recommendation. Sometimes it’s supply chain continuity across multiple origins. And sometimes it’s connecting a customer with a trusted supplier partner who can meet a need outside our portfolio. We also pride ourselves on following a variety of ingredient commodity markets to help aid our customers on when to contract and for what length of time.
We take our role as a solution provider and a partner seriously. If we can help move your project forward — even if it’s not directly through Smirk’s — that’s a win.
Why ExpoWest Matters to Us
ExpoWest gives us something you can’t get from a spreadsheet: a read on the industry’s pulse.
We hear firsthand about:
- Ingredient needs in the market
- Supply chain pressures
- Cash flow realities
- Hard-to-source ingredients
- Short crops as well as opportunity buys
- Costs and cost volatility challenges
- Reformulation needs
We walk the show floor to spot emerging packaging trends, ingredient call-outs, and positioning shifts. But just as importantly, we talk with people about the products they’re passionate about. That’s where the real insight lives.
And of course, ExpoWest isn’t just one building. Between the Anaheim Convention Center complex, the Fresh Ideas Organic Marketplace tent, and even the nearby Southern California IFT Supplier’s Night, it becomes a full ecosystem of activity.
Where else can you do all of this under one (very large) roof?
What We Expect to See at ExpoWest 2026?
- Functional Nutrition: Protein & Fiber Front and Center
Protein innovation will continue expanding beyond bars and shakes into beverages, enhanced waters, sauces, and snack extensions.
Fiber will become more prominent across categories, with gut health, metabolic wellness, satiety support, and prebiotic positioning driving formulation decisions. We expect to see increasing emphasis on ingredient density per serving and more strategic use of functional fibers in snacks, beverages, and bakery applications.
- The GLP-1 Effect on Portion Architecture
As GLP-1 medications continue influencing consumer behavior, we anticipate more intentional portion sizing and smaller snack formats. This may lead to higher nutrient density per serving and reformulation strategies that emphasize satiety and functional value per serving.
- Regenerative & Farmer-Forward Sourcing
Regenerative Organic Certified sourcing and farmer-centric storytelling are likely to grow in visibility. Brands are moving beyond surface-level claims and leaning into transparent supply chain narratives.
- Digestive & Mental Wellness Convergence
The intersection of gut health, mood, hydration, and sleep support continues to evolve. Beverage innovation, in particular, is blending functional hydration with cognitive and digestive benefits in more sophisticated ways.
- Global Flavors & Texture Play
Expect bold global flavors, layered sensory experiences, and contrasting textures — alongside nostalgic comfort foods reimagined with better-for-you ingredients.
- Sustainability 2.0
Sustainability isn’t going away — but we expect messaging to go deeper. Fewer broad claims, more measurable commitments, and stronger transparency around sourcing and impact.
Post – Show
Our team ranges from a first-timer at ExpoWest to someone who has been attending since the show’s early days. That range of perspective always makes for a great post-show debrief.
There are always surprises. And honestly, those are often the most fun.
After ExpoWest, we’ll take time to gather our insights and share a full round-up of:
- The trends we saw
- Ingredients that stood out
- Market dynamics we heard about
- And yes — the overall vibe.
Whether you attend in person or follow from afar, connect with Smirk’s on LinkedIn for our post-show ingredient, trends and market intelligence recap.
Expo Survival Tips (From Experience)
For those new to ExpoWest, here’s our tried-and-true short list:
- Wear your most comfortable shoes. When those stop feeling good, switch to your second-most comfortable pair.
- Sample strategically. Your stomach may not tell you “enough is enough” in time.
- Bring layers. Even when it’s warm outside, parts of the show floor can feel like a restaurant walk-in cooler.
- Hand sanitizing and hand washing increase significantly. Hand lotion can be a lifesaver.
- Take periodic breaks. Step outside, hydrate, and reset. If you know where your exhibitor friends are, they may offer a welcome chair.
- Take social media photos — but don’t forget photos with friends and newfound friends. Those memories help define each year’s experience.
- Enjoy the caffeinated samples… but at some point, prioritize sleep so you can do it all over again the next day. It’s a journey, not a sprint.
As we write this, we’re all preparing for an epic week — guaranteed to bring excitement, engagement, great conversations, innovative products, plenty of sampling, sore feet (possibly blisters), and hopefully a lot of fun.
Please do us the honor of stopping by our booth to say hello!
Happy Expo Trails from the Smirk’s Team!
